Perhaps someday I'll be able to think about Australia without the Foster beer "How to speak Australian" commercials. My favorite showed a guy pushing a wheelbarrow with two passed out drunks in it. "Designated driver."

Hey CK. I hope you guys had a great holiday weekend!

I love that comercial Em. And I love the rugged strength of the voice that says "Fosters!" It impells me to repeat it right afterwards.

LOL, have you seen the one where a giant bolder falls on a guy? From beneath it comes a moan. "Crybaby."

Good morning! One never knows when people will show up here. Which side of the country do you live in? I'm in the middle, myself, so it's 8:17 here.

Well, duh! I just saw the RI. When you made your post it was a little after 6 o'clock here and I don't check the computer at that time of the day. The people on the other coast were still in bed.

Here in Indy we are so far west that being on eastern daylight savings time.....it's after 10 at night and still can almost get by with driving with no headlights. Have to draw the blinds and cutains to make it drak enough to sleep. Short window where I can drive in to work with no headlights on before DST kicks in.

The time zones were set up at the request of the railroads, who needed standard times in order to schedule trains. In those days, everything moved at train speeds or slower. People who wanted real time transcontinental communication had to go sit at the railroad station or in a Western Union office while the messages were sent by telegraph. The idea of people sitting in their homes or offices and chatting with friends thousands of miles away never occurred to them.

I still say the high powered business types use daylights savings time to get 18 holes in after office hours. Up until just a few years ago us Hoosiers didn't have to change our clocks. I could care or less either way other than it's a huge pain the tail to have to set ALL time pieces twice a year.

I finally went to all atomic clocks and even an atomic digital watch so that I wouldn't have to worry about reseting them. They know about DST and they know how many days are in each month, too, so I never have to reset them. The watch is solar powered, so I don't have to get batteries changed. Now all that I need is more time.

After Thanksgivings I've encountered people for whom shopping is a contact sport. It's why I started buying on line.

OK enough silliness...........I have a serious poll to offer (and we all know how painful that can be)...Predict the winners in each division, pick your wildcards, pick divisional playoff winners, pick the NFC/AFC CG match ups, pick the Superbowl match and winner...anyone? anyone?

My only prediction is that the Houston Texans will be average. Over the past three years they have been 25-23. With the toughest schedule in the NFL, they will do well to finish 8-8. If they ever develop a defense they will be in the upper rank of teams, but for now they are stuck firmly in the middle.

I've thought that Reecey and I might start a new topic about the Texans, but what would we call it, the Mediocre Texas? We don't get no respect? Texans fans - both of them? We could have a naming contest, but it would have to be called off for lack of interest.

LadyHawk, you went to a French cooking school. Does your schedule ever allow you time to do some serious cooking? What gives you the most satisfaction to cook? I'm becoming more interested in good cooking now that I have the leisure to appreciate it.

I went to a cooking school (over 20 years ago) that taught us how to cook classic French cuisine as well as some French baking. My heart wasn't really in it so I didn't pursue it (even though I graduated with a AAS degree in Hospitality, Food Production and Hotel Management. I can certainly do cook, but its mostly for just the kids and myself and they are a picky little crowd. So we eat fairly simple. But as I get older I am enjoying cooking more.

What gives me the most satisfaction to cook? When the person(s) I am cooking for rave that it is delicious.

Respect only comes for tenured teams. We have to put in some time and some stellar seasons for outside respect to start pouring in. Until then, we just have to weather the storm. The schedules have been downright brutal these last three or four years, and it won't let up this season either. We're going to need some good clean mistake free football in order to do what we want to do. It's very unlikely but we may have to sweep out the AFC West, at least win half of our division games, and then win 2 or 3 of the games against the NFC East. Seems very unlikely...DAMN! I had the other day off, I could have went and watched the team practice. Shoot! :geek:
