It's certainly true that it's publish or die, but what you publish can be in about any form. If you write a lot of what are called "Invited Papers" it means that you are well-regarded by your peers and you are secure. A lot of it depends on the sort of university where you teach and what you teach. For example, the requirements at a research school are not the same as at a primarily teaching school. A top researcher who brings in loads of research money can set his own rules.

LOL. At least you write about something that people are interested in, Utah. There's a lot to be said for that.

All this has left me feeling guilty, so I guess that I'd better get a little work done. I look forward to talking with everybody later.

See guys (and gals)? Just takes a little maneuvering, but once you figure it out, this place makes (sniff sniff) our old Switzerland totally obsolete!

Good morning. I'm trying to take care of the little that I have to do before it gets too hot. There is one consolation about living in this climate - I will never have to worry about installing a sauna. All that I have to do is step outside. I'm enjoying swimming now, but by late August the water in my pool will be too hot for swimming. But I don't have to worry about bad winter weather. I guess that you have to pick your poison.

Don't spend $2 to dry-clean a shirt. Donate it to the Salvation Army instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for 75 cents
