Dred being a Cowboy fan don't you just wish JJ would hire a real GM?

Yesterday Jim Rome said "JJ needs to hire a Super Bowl-caliber coach like Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden or Mike Holmgren."

Holmgren?! What the... Mike likes/demands A LOT of power and is not a "yes man."

While I like some of the thought-provoking things Jim Rome says from time to time, that particular statement made me laugh. Why do you think Holmgren is the GM and not the HC of the Browns? He likes the control...

Hey LH - I think all three of those guys would not work for JJ, they all like power over personnel. I heard that Jim Harbaugh of Stanford is being discussed. I feel sorry for whoever takes over the trainwreck.

i wish uncle jerry would hire someone he respects and will work with and listen to...he is a decent gm but needs a head coach...(not a yes man)

Dred - did you see that JJ Jr. let the Cowboy domain name expire? I guess fans were trying to get on the team website the day Wade went down and were redirected to a phantom site. Can you imagine how much you could've held that domain name for ransom. They got lucky, very lucky.

Em, that's funny. Did you see the special on ESPN last Sunday about Childress and Andy Reid traveling to Afghanistan? They were visiting troops and the Marines arranged for Childress' 21 year old son to see his dad. Pretty touching actually...good stuff. Showed a different side to Childress.

Brad Childress will be an upgrade in only one city. Buffalo.

And with that...THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL STARTS TOMORROW!

I agree. Pennington is a known quantity. He won't electrify the crowd, but he won't throw the game away, either.

That's true. Henne's 3 picks were, hard on the eyes. Chad doesn't do that. He won't really take many shots downfield, but he also won't throw it to the other team as much. And he does a better job of reading Defenses. He's a veteran.

I didn't get to see the game because Time Warner Cable doesn't carry the NFL Network. I was surprised at the result, but only dred and Baglady picked it right.

Sorry, I was just looking at those making the weekly picks here. I hadn't noticed that you didn't make any picks this week.

Week before last I checked on all of the teams and the match ups before making my picks. I finished dead last at 4-10. Last week I just picked all of the teams in the left-hand column and tied dred for first. I like to use scientific methods.

Sorry for not being here the past couple of days. I've caught a flu bug (or something) and I just can't seem to sit at the computer for long.
LadyHawk: Why don't you do the football picks? It's just for fun... (Okay, yeah--maybe it's a little about besting everyone else. )

ck, don't you get flu shots?

No flu shots for me, Em. I get the flu once every 20 years or so. Had whatever that really bad one was this year, so I should be good. This is one of those things that punches you in the stomach, but (hopefully) doesn't last more than a few days. The big punch was yesterday, but I'm not doing so well today either. I prefer to just relax and let the television drone in my ear to trying to concentrate on the computer, though. That's why I haven't been around. Guilt got me, though, so I felt the need to visit for a little while. I miss this place and all my friends, but I like to be at my best when I'm here visiting...

That makes sense. My loyalty to teams is inversely proportional to their distance from where I live.
