Considering our schedule, we won't have the leisure to get into a rhythm. We have to be sharp coming out of the gate.

The real football starts in earnest next week and we will find out if the Texans are contenders or pretenders. They will have to prove themselves against a merciless schedule.

Remember what I call "C.K.'s Rule No. One of Football." That is (in case you can't remember): Last season's performance is not necessarily this season's performance. OR There's a reason that teams don't keep winning SB after SB (except in some cases). or Just because a team is great in season A does not mean they will even be good in season B. Strange, but true.

The Texans picked him up just to push our number two quarterback. Since he was released, we were able to get him cheap on a one-year contract. Matt Schaub led the NFL in passing last season, so nobody is going to challenge him for the starting job. Leinart will be the number three.

I'm underwhelmed by the Lienart acquisition, but I have to be honest. The kid has some tools, and our staff is pretty good at turning out good QB's. HOWEVER, that hasn't exactly been the case with Dan Orlovsky. Just when you see a little bit of progression from him, he suffers almost major setbacks. I think his psyche may be too damaged from that 0-16 year. Because as soon as he threw that first pick, he was like a snowball headed downhill.

Leinart could be useful. He has no arm, but he is very accurate. In the right scheme he could do just enough. Let's just hope that our really good starter stays healthy.

Hey Hey cK! What's the good word?

Sorry I left out for a little while yall. I forgot to put out one of the trash cans for the maintenance crew, the head maintenance lady saw me and was trying to chew out her employee. I wouldn't have any of that, because it was my fault. I made that lady apologize to her employee. I was the wrong in the wrong, and made it impossible for the employee to do her job. So, I had to go correct the situation. The lead lady apologized, and I apologized to the employee.

You're so right about Lienart Em. Whisenhunt wants to throw the deep ball. IT's not Lienart's forte, and is Derek Anderson's. So, the other man won out.

Hey Reeceykins! Wish I had a good word for you, but learned about the big Dolphin announcement when I checked in here tonight and it has me in a little bit of a snit. That was quite a bomb to drop at the beginning week of the season.

I notice that Reecey used the word forte. Why is it that when the word is used - as Reecey did - to describe somebody's strength it is pronounced fort, but the musical direction - which is Italian - is pronounced forTAY? Both words come from the same root, of course. I know that the English insist on Anglicizing the pronunciation of foreign words to the point of being comic, but this makes no sense.

I love the word "forte." My mother taught me early in life that the correct pronunciation in speaking that word was "fort." She sang with the Miami Opera Guild for nearly 30 years, so she knew all about operatic pronunciation as well. Anyway, "forte" became my favorite word to correct people's pronunciation, and I passed that on to my children. Unfortunately, no one believes you when you tell them, for the most part, and they go right on pronouncing it incorrectly. The joke is on them  .

LOL, thanks for the vote of confidence, 16, but I have to laugh at the idea of the Texans winning the AFC. Some day, maybe, but not this year. I wish the Niners the best of luck, though.

Thanks Em...I think we'll go to the playoffs for the first time in a LONG time. Best of luck to your Texans as well and good luck with Leinhart <snickers>

I expect the Niners to win their division going away. They have had the talent for a long time and now they have a coach who will make them play to that level. Sing isn't going to accept any half-hearted efforts. He has one big advantage over most coaches - the genuine respect of all of his players. They know that he walked the walk when he was a player.

You're right Em, anything is better than the eunach known as Mike Nolan. The man had NO balls! Our team is tight with one big ? and that's #11. If Mr Smith can avoid screwing the pooch as they say at NASA then we'll be A-OK.

My thoughts about San Francisco never left the Montana era, so I'm always thinking of the 49ers as being a real threat.

Honey where have you been living for the last 10 years? Us being a threat? I just tinkled in my pants!

For what it's worth those years are what's kept me "faithful" over the pitiful seasons we've endured...Thus "16Forever".

Montana was cooler under pressure than anybody that I ever saw. They could be in desperate need of a touchdown at the end of the game and Joe would make a bad throw. You would see him grin. On the next play he would connect with Rice for the touchdown and the Niners would win the game. Priceless.

Very true Em...How many times did 16 and 80 connect but this play to Taylor still gives me chills. I was living on Russian Hill in San Francisco, the windows were open and when this happened you could literally hear the whole city erupt.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh the memories:
