Clint Murchison was a ideal owner. He knew the oil business, but was smart enough to know that he couldn't run a football franchise. He asked who was the smartest man in the business. Told that it was Tex Schramm, he gave him a lifetime contract as general manager and told him that it was his team. At the time, most people didn't even know who owed the Cowboys. That was fine with Murchison, who had no ego problems. When the fans and media demanded that Tom Landry be fired, Clint gave him a long term contract and said that he was going to be the head coach, so live with it. The Cowboys then started a run of an NFL record twenty consecutive winning seasons.

Tex was very protective of the team's image, back before the term was in general use. The practice of picking up talented players with bad reputations never happened when Tex was in charge. Some very talented players, such as Thomas Henderson, where run off because they hurt the team's image. Now the Cowboys seem to be collecting jailbirds, although I can't tell that they have helped the team.

Hey, I'm off to lunch. I'm really partial to Cajun food. I think that I'll have some jambalaya, because I've found a place that really cooks it!

I've always liked the name of my home town, Beaumont. It means "beautiful mountain." LOL, there are certainly no mountains around here, beautiful or otherwise. The town got its name from an early settler. The many Beaumonts in France all have mountain views, though.

I should have made my screen name "Joe Touchdown." It would have fit my avatar better.

Thanks! I can't remember which of the Swiss fixed it up for me. It originally had another helmet (UCLA?) and somebody Photoshopped it for me to change it to a Texans helmet.

TryThinking is good at that stuff, and is pretty generous about helping people out with it, dred--so I would guess you're 'memberin' is pretty good tonight.

Let me help you keep it there. We play the Cowboys twice this season, but I'm afraid that neither game is at the new stadium in Arlington. I'm still looking for an excuse to get up there. Of course I like Reliant Stadium in Houston, but it doesn't look like a spacecraft.

But ck, both of our stadiums are air-conditioned. The teams leave the roofs open for their fans to get cold and rained on, but close and air-condition them to prevent heat stroke.

Up until this year, the coaches have always played to the heat. It used to give us an advantage, but now that the heat has become so extreme, I don't think it's good for anyone--our team, the opposition or the fans. The heat is brutal. This year we don't have any 1 o'clock games until, I think, October. Praise the gods!!! :D

Why is Dallas so inferior to the other 31 teams? = Jerry Jones.
