It's the return of Cushing the Juice Man. Heck, he can juice all he wants if he's gonna get 150 tackles, 4 INT's, 4 Sacks, and 4 Forced Fumbles. I'd even become his supplier.

Run, run, and run. The Gmen won't be able to stop Houston's run.

I watched the Houston/Oakland game rerun on NFL netrwork last night. It's amazing what you can see when you watch it again without being on pins and needles emotionally and can actually analyze things a bit. And of course, the NFL network breaks down a lot of plays.

Although the stats don't necessarily suggest it, Houston pretty much dominated that game. Oakland had a few good plays, but Houston clearly had their way. The bad part is if Murphy wouldn't have dropped the pass that Nolan picked at the end of the game, Oakland stood a good chance to tie the game up. Houston needs to learn to step on opponent's throats once they take charge of a game.

Everybody in the NFL has figured out that the Texans Achilles heel is their atrocious pass defense. It's practically non-existent. The Texans have won three games only because they can generate a lot of offense.

Cushing will have an instant impact on Houston's pass defense. When he's not blitzing and effing up the pass game, he'll be dropping into coverage and hopefully harassing the tight ends, who have really been having their way with Houston's defense this season.

Our rushing defense has been great, but that could be simply because it's been so easy to pass on us. I've always heard that to be a top team the two things that you have to do are run and stop the run. We are ranked first in rushing and second in run defense.

You're right SS. I was watching the game earlier today again myself, and we literally dominated that game all up and down the field on both sides of the ball. The few big plays that we gave up led to every Raider score and the few times that the Raiders even got into the Redzone. I wish our bye week was this week, because we would be able to access that internally, and try to come out even better prepared for the week afterwards. But, Cushing's prescence on the field will allow us to run some better coverage sets because he plays the run and the pass equally as great. Man I love that boy! Also, we might get a chance to see Paymah out in some dime packages because WE STILL have yet to see Antuan Molden get out there for anything other than special teams. And I also love how Troy Nolan seemed to always be in the right place at the right time. He played well against the run like a SS, but in obvious passing downs he played the pass very well. 2 picks, 2 break ups, and he also stopped a catch short of the first down as well on a third down. Something told me I was going to like Nolan just from his preseason play, and it's nice to see that it's carried over to the field in the season as well. I endorse that we go ahead and start Nolan. And with Zac Diles being so high on the league leading tackles list, I think he should start with Cushing and Ryans, but I think they're going in another direction...probably trying to play Xavier Adibi there? I don't know. I'll brb after a while guys. I'm gonna take lunch, but I'm going to get something that I can cook in the toaster oven here in the break room (maybe bake some chicken legs) so I will be out of the room for a good little while. Tell me what yall think? I'll be back after a while. GO TEXANS!

After nearly burning the place down, I don't do toaster ovens. I really don't cook anyway, but I can microwave leftovers.

Oh Goodness Em! The only time I use mine is when I'm sitting within ten feet from it. I don't trust it fully either...but the few times I've used mine I've gotten satisfactory results. But because I cook in bulk, I normally don't get to use it.

I went out for gumbo for lunch today and it was so good that I got some to go. I can microwave it when I'm ready. For me, that's cooking.

I think we're all pretty much on the same page. I mentioned a few posts back that I was hoping Paymah would gel quickly and get more snaps asap. I wonder how many games it will take before he starts to feel at home. And Nolan was playing like it was preseason and he was fighting for a job, which was good to see. I think he got lucky on both of those picks though, as they were tipped, but he must get credit for being focused and easing into the right place downfield from the ball at the right time.

Cushing is gonna change things immediately. Teams will now be planning their offense with him as a major factor. I am hoping Pollard will chill out and help the secondary more now that Cushing will be aggressively patrolling up front. I love watching Pollard have a nose for the ball (especially on running plays and slot type stuff) and make bone crushing tackles, but he needs to back off and work on pass coverage and forget about making highlight tackles on every play. We'll see if he leads the team in tackles this week or not.

Cushing needs to be sent in to freak out Eli early and often. He'll be higher than a kite on the first two or three series, and will be out for blood. He'll be like a sailor returning from a float looking for the donkey show. Then back him off and let him settle back to the normal game plan and his instinct.

I don't see the Gmen's pass rush hurting us too much. If so, we can hopefully quickly adjust and get Leach and/or Ward in the backfield to help during pass situations. I hope Ward has been working on blocking this week. I would also like to see Houston play action the Gmen several times with all of our backs to see how that works out. If they do this regularly, it will make the linebackers afraid to commit to the run and give AF an opportunity to pop through the lines and extend his yds per carry average. If he can burst through the line and get one cut going, he's gonna increase his average.

That's all for now. I could run on forever. Prolly don't make any sense, and I'm prolly full of crap, but hey, we got a team now, lol. GO Texans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad that I fully enjoyed the week that the Texans were leading the division. They really looked weak against the Giants and just emphasized that they have the worst pass defense in the NFL.

Hopefully Houston will work on the mental side of things as well. Both losses were at home after road wins. Come home, and get complacent. That's my take. Houston needs to work on maintaining a hunger to win. Until then, they will not be mature enough to take the division. They have the physical tools, but the mental tools are lacking.

It will be interesting to see if they bounce back at home against the Chiefs.

My consolation is in low expectations. All of the years that I've been a Texans fan, they were never contenders. It was only last year that they finally had winning record. I stuck with them through all of that and I'm not going to become discouraged now. I would hate to see them regress, but I still have hopes.

Houston has a very dangerous team and can beat anyone in the league. However, they don't have experience and maturity right now and they at times are complacent. While Kub can't force experience on them, he can work on the mental side of the game and keep the team hungry. Houston doing generally well on the road so far this year is a great example of their complacency at home.

Game one was a fluke because it was the first game of the year, and the Colts absolutely were not prepared for Houston to run the ball like they did in the second half. Hell, the entire NFL was dumbfounded by that. The following two losses at home were after road wins, and Kub failed to keep the team hungry and on edge when they returned to the safety of mommy's womb. The team largely sleeps with one eye open while in enemy territory as they should, but they get too comortable when teams come to their house to fight them.

Houston needs to learn how to stay hungry, and to have a killer instinct and step on opponent's throats when ahead. Until then, they will just be another average to above average team with flashes of brilliance.

Go Texans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All that I ask of the Texans is that they don't regress. Given their very tough schedule, I will be happy if they finish with their second winning season. Anything else would be lagniappe.

I knew that the Texans had no pass defense at all. What shocked me was how completely the Giants shut down our offense, both passing and rushing. Before we could always get one or the other to work.
