Bum Phillips was recorded as being angered about the decision to fire Wade. He said that Wade went to the playoffs every season, was just 9-7, 13-3, and 11-5 (with one playoff win), did not warrant a coach being fired. A combined record of 33-16 is damned good for anybody.

Well BumBum, you're right about that. BUT, this job has higher expectations and tighter restrictions than any other coaching job in sports buddy. It comes with the territory, and anybody that comes in and accepts the Commander & Chief position for the Star (well...maybe more like Vice President  ) Knows what is expected of them. Yeah Wade may have been a bumbling butt kisser and that turned him off to the rest of America, but he didn't set out to do what he was brought in to do and with the most quantifiable resources in the NFL. So BumBum, I love ya and agree with ya to a point, but all of that, plus being 1-7 this year is exactly why your son is on the outside looking in right now.

And Wade had the nerve to say after getting fired, "I thought my job was safe...." Seems like everytime Wade opens his mouth he does a disservice to himself.

everyone thinks that uncle jerry is like the steinbrenners...but i looked at what each roster costs...and the Cowboys are pretty far down the list...also...romo is the best bargain in the league at 625k a year...

Nobody is safe when so much money is at stake. Any coach is just 1-7 away from being fired. I remember the first year in Cowboys history. In those days expansion teams got everybody's castoffs and they could hardly field at team. The Cowboys lost every game. A couple of years later it wasn't much better. The sports press and the fans were hollering for Tom Landry's scalp and demanding that he be fired. Finally the owner, Clint Murchison, called Tex Schramm and told him to give Tom a long contract extension, just to shut everybody up. Then the Cowboys ran off twenty consecutive winning seasons, still an NFL record.

I thought that they already gave Tony a restructured contract textension? I remember looking back a few years back, after tony's second pro bowl and thinking "They're getting their moneys worth! Lol!"

I don't remember if they gave him a new contract or not though. If they haven't then Tony's agent ain't worth spit.

The great thing about being a fan of the Cowboys, Steelers, Forty-niners, etc is that at least they have been great. Imagine being a Lions fan, with a team that has been around since the beginning but has never won a conference championship. Imagine being a Bills fan and losing four consecutive Super Bowls.

Have at it dude... I've never seen "Kelly's Heroes." But I recall it was a favorite of my mom's! She was such a character ~ I'm eternally grateful she introduced me to football.
