Nah, Em. I think it just wasn't a good game for him; however, he is looking much older this year. I think last season aged him more than he can admit.

Apologies in advance Ck and other Favre lovers -

Favre has had a truly epic career, I admire his passion for the game BUT enough is enough. His toying with retirement and unretirement is absolutely absurd. 41 is relatively young in the scheme of things in life but 41 might as well be 41 in dog years in the NFL. Sure he has the mind and wisdom but at 41 his body is not going to be able to take many more games like last night. One misplanted step and the ankle's gonna cave or perhaps suffer a worse injury God forbid.

The "experts" are saying he'll settle down in 2-4 games, my God if he would gotten his ass in training camp his timing would be tight, he'd be able to gel with the whole team. I guess that's one of my issues with him, it's the QB in the ivory tower syndrome. Bottom line is that NFL teams cannot afford to "settle down" after 1/4 of the season is gone. They need to come out locked and loaded.

I truly believe that the Packers will take the NFC North this year...Maybe we'll witness the final retirement and he can ride off into the sunset to make Wrangler commercials and tend to his farm in Hattisberg, maybe even coach HS football since that essentially was his training camp...practicing with 17 year olds.

My two cents to add to your 401K...I'll zip it now - Peace.

No apologies ever needed for expressing ones feelings 16.
I've always enjoyed the guys heart and desire to play the game. I remember last year half the human football population was saying the same thing about him, "come on old man give it up you had a great career and now it's time to ride the golden rocking chair".
Then the season happened and that same old man was an interception away from the Superbowl. How many other players and teams would have traded to be in that place at that time? Many go on their whole careers never even getting a whiff of the big dance.
As for the one mis-planted step, that has happened to 20 somethings also and never made it back to the game. One game does not make a season and I hope that they can gel into a cohesive unit and compete at the top level. They weren't far off or out of that game last night and with the likes of Rice out ... that would make a huge difference. AP didn't have 100 yards in an opening game for the first time in his career etc... shoulda coulda woulda.... I think they should go after V Jackson from the Chargers right now.

I'm not an apologist for Favre as he has always owned up to his play or lack of over the years. That being said; yes he should have made the decision earlier to come to camp or not, yes it would most likely have helped the timing with the players, yes he may get some preferential treatment as MANY top level athletes have over the years and yes I'm glad he's back for this LAST season and hope he does well.
Would love to see him ride on out with his head held high and saying I knew I had another season in me, now it's time to call it quits for good.....

a couple more cents to add to the pot.....

I guess that I might as well chime in too. I will be surprised if Brett lasts the season. Nobody questions his heart, but I don't think that his body is up to it.

And for all that, the man has the "grandfather" jokes going around because he had a mediocre opener. BTW: It's not the first time I've watched Greg Camarillo miss routes and drop balls, making the QB look bad...

I love him, dred, but I have a bad feeling that he will not be finishing this season. He's only human, and he's looking mighty ragged...

Sorry. I spent the morning making sure that everything was ready for a luncheon that I hosted for the Historical District (the area where I live) Committee. I had a caterer and a florist, but I had to check on everything. Just when I was assured the everything was up to snuff and was ready to greet everybody at Switzerland, the first guests showed up.

I guess that it was typical. You spend all morning preparing for something that lasts an hour and a half and accomplishes little.

I didn't realize you lived in the Historic District, Em, although now that you say it, I believe you did mention it some time back. I suppose you get roped into a lot of charity stuff too.

LOL, I sort of inherited it all along with the place, ck. My family has been in Beaumont a long time and my father and grandfather did business with a lot of people. We helped start the Beaumont Country Club. It's all stuff that I could do without, but I'd disappoint a lot of people if I didn't participate.

There's a lot of talk about free will, but sometimes I wonder just home much circumstances limit it. I've always believed that, while we cannot control all of the circumstances of our lives, we can choose how we react to them. Now I'm not so sure. We are the product of our environment, which influences our responses. At least that's the way that I feel about it presently. As I've become older I grow less sure about things than I was when I was young. Have you ever read Somerset Maugham's Of Human Bondage? It's about the subject of free will.

GOOD MORNING, SWITZERLAND and GO GO GO DOLPHINS!!!!!

Yes, Em. I read OF HUMAN BONDAGE in college. I found it morbidly depressing--and although we did a full analysis of the novel back then, the only thing I do remember is how depressing it was, lol. I do know what you are saying about free will, though, and I am afraid you are right...

Although the novel was depressing on the whole, it ended on an up note. A surgeon told the protagonist that he could fix his club foot, which had had such a negative influence on his whole life. I'm sure that in your study of it you learned that Maugham had a stutter, which had a profound effect on him.

I was delighted that the Rice Owls won on Saturday. They are the smallest Division 1 school and not exactly a football factory.
